”For the last time I said NO!” The red unicorn almost roared out as he looked up at the blue pegasus flying over him. ”Aww come on! You said you were going to tell me on our trip today!” ”Maybe! I said maybe!” The unicorn corrected her as he glared at her a bit. ”Pwweeeeaaaaaasse?” The pegasus began to make watery puppy eyes as she flew in front of him and stared into his eyes. ”First off, that will never work. Second, how about I ask you of your little crush on Swift Runner, huh?” The pegasus’s expression changed from a begging puppy eye look to a highly blushing face. ”I…I have no crush!” ”Oh come on! You are getting redder then I am!” He said with a triumphant smile as he points his hoof at her. ”Ever since the day I met you I have seen you blush whenever he runs by!” The blue flyer shook her head as she flew high up into the air squirming all around with her front and hind legs like she was trying to hide herself from him.

”Get down here!” He shouted cautiously as he lighted up his horn. He captured one of her legs and slowly began to pull her down towards the ground. The pegasus of course struggled to break loose. ”Let….me…go!” ”If you flew any higher up you would have had way too much altitude and you would have gotten light headed and then you’ve fallen to the ground, and don’t think that I could catch a falling Pegasus in midair!” When hearing the intellectual explanation from her unicorn friend she sighed and allowed him to drag her down to the ground. “You should stop being so careless when you get all flustered like that. Think of the damage you could have done to yourself.” She made a small “Hmph!” And flew up above him. “And you should stop acting like you’re my mother.” She said as she stared down at him. “Then you should stop acting like such a child!” He yelled up at her as he shook his head and kept on walking the pathway.

They were both wearing leather jackets with saddlebags hanging down their waist. Soon enough they reached the Everfree Forest and went inside. Knowing about the possible dangers of these woods the Pegasus flew down beside him and landed on the ground, both being on the lookout. “I still think this is a dumb idea. Everfree is known for having many dangers.” The Pegasus giggled as she leaned at her horned friend. “That is why it’s such a dare to be in here! Imagine staying and living in this forest for… a week or something!” He looked at his friend for a moment before sighing and softly shaking his head.

As they trotted through the infamous forest it seemed like the darkness of the woods were closing in on them. The darkness was getting thicker and it was like the trees themselves moved. Several sounds and cries of the forest haunted their ears. As he looked behind him…he could not see where they had come from. “Point of no return…” He lowly said to himself. He looked to the Pegasus and she looked at him with a knowing face: They were on their own now.

After trotting for what seemed like hours, the skies had gotten dark above them, and finally they reached their campsite: A nice small oval clearing. There was a small hill leading down to a lake where a bunch of stone was stacked up near the shore. They went both up onto the hill and began to lay out small mattresses and sleeping bags from their saddlebags. They began to gather rocks and leftover wood by the edges of the clearing as they made ready for the night.

The moon stood proudly up in the sky as its pale glow shined upon the lands below, the stars giving it company as each of them competed to shine the brightest and most noticeable in the night skies. In the middle of a forest a bright orange light burned as ashes rose up from a campfire to join the stars with their own shine. The two ponies sat near the fire, staring into the dancing flames. The Pegasus, looked up to her unicorn companion. “You haven’t said anything since we got here.” she said with a tired voice.

Her light blue eyes shined lightly in the fire as she looked at her travel mate. He had a red colored coat with a spiky mane and tail, which had a split between black and dark red. His cutiemark was a single flame burning with power. She, herself had an ice blue coat with a bright white and blue long mane going a way down her back and over her face. Her cutiemark was an ice shard, which almost seemed to glisten in the light of the fire.  What was curious about her companion though, was not just the strange cutiemark. She was reminded whenever he looked at her, of his other odd trait. His eyes; they were not oval as other ponies, but sharp and straight down like a dragons would be.

“There hasn’t really been anything to talk about, Glacia.” the unicorn said as he looked at her. It was as if his eyes would pierce right through whatever he looked at. He glanced at the fire as he noticed the flames were slowly getting dull, his horn illuminated red with a magical shell as the fire suddenly came alive again and threw more ashes up to let them get carried off by the wind. “Well, we talked a lot on our way here, and I haven’t had many chances to ask you about your past.” She said as she leaned forward from her place on the soft grass to look at him excited. “Come on Zorian! I want to know, what the history is behind those eyes of yours!”

He looked from the fire and looked over at the blue Pegasus. They had been friends for a few months now, going on trips here and there and yet he had always avoided the question she asked the most: “What is the history behind those eyes?” Perhaps it was time to tell her the story… He sighed and smiled at her. “Alright…you have been very patient, and a good friend…I think you deserve to know the story.” ” He looked up at her with a wide smile, which almost glowed in the light of the fire. She gave out an excited “Yes!” as she scuttled towards him ready to hear the tale.

He smirked, kind of excited to tell his eager friend the story. “Alright…have you ever heard…of the Fire Unicorns?”
